Intensified Diarrhea Control Programme   (IDCF)

There is a need to accelerate efforts towards the reduction of childhood mortality, which is one of the prime goals of the National Health Mission, diarrhea contributes to around 13% of under-five deaths and most of these deaths are clustered around Summer and Monsoon season.

To effectively address this issue every year State observes Intensified Diarrhoea control Fortnight with the ultimate aim of Zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhea.

The key activities to be undertaken are as under:

  1. Home visit by ASHA to all families with under-five children
  2. Establishment of ORS- Zinc corners
  3. Handwashing demonstration (To make aware the children of the benefits of cleanliness and hand washing before meals and after, clean water is provided and hand washing is observed before feeding children at Schools and Anganwari centers.)
  4. Setting up of IYCF demonstration and counseling sites
  5. Referral and medical management of undernourished children at a health facility.
